Child Safe Officer Course

The role of the Child Safe Officer (CSO) is to deliver advice and awareness within their organisation or club around developing a child safe environment.

The goal for this education course is to ensure the CSO:

  • understands the importance for organisations to adopt appropriate screening processes for members working with young children and young people and the requirement for criminal history assessments

  • understands how and why child protection needs to be included in an organisation’s/group’s Member Protection Policy (MPP), or for a separate Child Protection Policy to be implemented if they do not have a MPP

  • understands the definitions and indicators of child abuse and neglect

  • acquires knowledge and understanding of the requirement under the Children’s Protection Act 1993 of the legal responsibilities of staff and volunteers working with children.

  • has a broad knowledge of the Child Abuse Report Line processes and procedures.

This training will assist clubs to complete STARCLUB question 22 'Has your organisation appointed and trained a Child Safe Officer?'

Pre entry requirements: Prior to the training, all participants must complete online training in Child Protection and Harassment and Discrimination on www.playbytherules.net.au and print off and bring the certificate to the training course.

Attendees will be provided with one Child Safe Environments Resource that can be used by the club.

Food and refreshments will be provided.
